188/365 - "Radical wave, Dude!"

July 7, 2011

The Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores does a traveling exhibit type thing for schools, and they came to our daycare last Thursday in lieu of our field trip. It was pretty awesome!
I couldn't help but be reminded of the cool "surfer dude" turtle from finding Nemo. But he was so cute!

182.5/365 - Patriotic Kid Wear

July 1, 2011

We did shirt decorating today for the kids to wear over the weekend. :) They had a blast decorating them!

Also, as of today I am officially halfway through with my 365 project!

181/365 - quilting on a field trip ;)

June 30, 2011

We took a field trip to the new History Center downtown and it was pretty awesome!
The kids got to make a digital quilt, which was pretty neat.

175/365 - kids can be mean.

June 24, 2011

Haha. On our water day Friday, the kids dumped a bucket of water on Adrienne. I escaped by using my camera as a shield, threatening them with having to buy me new electronics should they get a drop of water on mine. Worked like a charm!

174/365 - turning my kids into African animals

June 23, 2011

Our field trip to the Crash/Fire/Rescue demonstration was cancelled due to the smokey air quality we've been experiencing lately, so I did a little bit of fun face painting with the kids. The theme was African animals, but I did a couple of zombies, camo faces and a monkey that looked more like a puppy. Woops.

171/365 - 2 weeks in Africa

June 20, 2011

This is our "Africa wall" we'd been building upon the last 2 weeks. :) I hope the kids learned something.

105/365 - goodbye danielle!

April 15, 2011

Aw. Bittersweet. One of our infant room teachers is moving back to Arizona to get married next month, and Friday was her last day at the daycare. We threw her a little goodbye/bridal party, enjoyed some down time during naptime, and a good meal. Thanks to my big ole bucket of KFC. Ooh yeah.

Good luck & Congratulations Dani! We'll miss you!

104/365 - Earl & Jim Bob Jeffy Bob Joe Bob Frank

Today's photo of the day is coming in the form of a series. ;) In our after school class at our daycare, we are focusing on frogs this month. With the weather warming up, of course they were on our playground, so Adrienne let the kids catch a couple for us to take care of for a week before letting them go (or accidentally killing them). Here is our picture journey.

Here is our little frog. He was named "Jim Bob Jeffy Bob Joe Bob Frank"... I think.
Unpictured is Earl, our tree frog who was very shy.

The kids looking at the eco-system inside the tank before we set the frogs (and all the insects we'd put in there as food) free.

Adrienne setting the frogs free.

Scared to leave the tank?

The mushy mess that came out of our "ecosystem"

Finally going off into the woods.

I'm SO glad they made it through the week. Seriously. I had my doubts.

42/365 - i totally made this.

February 11, 2011
whew. There was this 'heart decorating' contest, so I helped make (or completely made) this amazing light up heart for one of the students. It was fun and the kids enjoyed it. Sorry this picture is so horrible, but there's really no making it look any better, so here you go. My photo of the day.

29/365 - the things kids steal

January 29, 2011
I understand. When I was little, the smaller the toy, the more I loved it. Here, look at me talking about how kids steal things, and somehow these things ended up coming home with me. By accident, of course. At least that's what I'll tell the cops when they charge me for counting bear larceny.

This was kind of funny, because the little girl was getting picked up and was so excited about the toys she'd lifted, she started taking them out of her pocket and showing them to the lady who was picking her up right then and there, infront of me. "Look what I got!", and then her guardian is like, "Where'd you get those?" and I'm all.... I'll take those.

Sticky fingers.

28/365 - painted lantern

January 28, 2011
My kids painted this paper lantern I bought sometime last summer, I believe. It turned out great and hung in the middle of the classroom for a while. They loved it, especially during lunch when they'd ask for the lights to be turned out so we could turn on the battery operated light and let them eat under the cool light. Until one day I left for lunch and left it turned on and came back and it was dead.

Woops.

Another art project we did recently, "Seasonal Silhouettes"

21/365 - primary/secondary

January 21, 2011
Decided to take some "real" paint colors to school today. We don't just have... plain red/blue/yellow/white/black, so I took in some bottles I hadn't opened yet. I'm keeping them in my teacher bag of course, because otherwise I'd go in Monday and somehow the entire bottles would be empty. On a plate. Or on one picture. Next to an empty bottle of glue. That I just filled up yesterday.
I'm all about encouraging creativity and letting them do all kinds of arts and crafts... but some of the kids are like, "Miss Becky, I need to glue this" and I look and they literally have one piece of paper infront of them. They just want to... glue the piece of paper to itself. Over and over again.
Or, "Miss Becky, I need to cut this" and it's a piece of string. Being cut into a million pieces.

This sounds trivial, but I swear it drives me up a wall. And I hate paper airplanes being made out of expensive construction paper. Am I this anal?
Yeah, I am.

13/365 - Paint me up

January 13, 2011
Thursday at work I was taking pictures for labels in my art center. All I really want is a nice bottle of red, blue, yellow, black and white and then teach the kids how they can make ALL the colors from just that..... but they like sparkly hot pink much better anyway.
